Since its birth in the United States in the 1940s, it has developed to the third generation, and its main feature is that the yield strength can reach 400-550MPa, which is twice that of ordinary stainless steel, so the duplex plate can save materials and reduce equipment manufacturing costs. In terms of corrosion resistance, especially in media environments (such as seawater, high chloride ion content), the resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, stress corrosion, and corrosion fatigue of duplex stainless steel is better than that of ordinary austenitic stainless steel, and is comparable to high-alloy austenitic stainless steel. DUPLEX 2507 STAINLESS STEEL plate

This alloy is intended for use in applications requiring high strength and corrosion resistance, such as chemical processing, petrochemical, and seawater equipment. The steel is very resistant to chloride stress corrosion cracking, with good thermal conductivity and a low coefficient of thermal expansion. The high chromium, molybdenum, and nickel content ensures good resistance to pitting, crevices, and general corrosion.

GENERAL PROPERTIES

Duplex 2507 (UNS S32750) is a super duplex stainless steel containing 25% chromium, 4% molybdenum, and 7% nickel. It is designed for demanding applications requiring great strength and corrosion resistance, such as chemical process, petrochemical, and seawater equipment. The steel is very resistant to chloride stress corrosion cracking, with a high thermal conductivity and a low coefficient of thermal expansion. The high chromium, molybdenum, and nickel levels offer outstanding resistance to pitting, crevices, and general corrosion.

CORROSION RESISTANCE

General Corrosion

  • high chromium and molybdenum content of 2507 makes it extremely resistant to uniform corrosion by organic acids like formic and acetic acid.
  • provides excellent resistance to inorganic acids, especially those containing chlorides.
  •  can be used in dilute hydrochloric acid.
  • Pitting need not be a risk in the zone below the borderline in this figure, but crevices must be avoided.

Intergranural Corrosion

  • Low carbon content greatly lowers the risk of carbide precipitation at the grain boundaries during heat treatment.
  • Is highly resistant to carbide-related intergranular corrosion.

Stress Corrosion Cracking

  • Duplex structure of 2507 provides excellent resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking (SCC).
  • Superior to 2205 in corrosion resistance and strength.
  • 2507 is especially useful in offshore oil and gas applications and in wells with either naturally high brine levels or where brine has been injected to enhance recovery.

Pitting Corrosion

  • Different testing methods can be used to establish the pitting resistance of steels in chloride-containing solutions.

Crevice Corrosion

  • Highly resistant to crevice corrosion.

Hot forming

2507 should be hot worked between 1875°F and 2250°F. This should be followed by a solution anneal at 1925°F minimum and a rapid air or water quench.

Cold Forming

Cold working 2507 is compatible with the majority of standard stainless steel forming processes. Because the alloy has a higher yield strength but lower ductility than austenitic steels, fabricators may need to use more forming forces, a larger radius of bending, and a greater margin for springback. Deep drawing, stretch forming, and similar procedures are more difficult to carry out on 2507 than on austenitic stainless steel. When forming calls for more than 10% cold deformation, a solution anneal and quench is advised.

Heat Treatment

2507 should be solution annealed and quenched following hot or cold forming. Solution annealing should be done at a temperature of at least 1925°F. Annealing should be followed by a quick air or water quench. To achieve the best corrosion resistance, heat treated products should be pickled and rinsed.

Welding

2507 has excellent weldability and may be linked to itself or other materials using shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), plasma arc welding (PAW), flux cored wire (FCW) or submerged arc welding (SAW). When welding 2507, use 2507/P100 filler metal to get the desired duplex weld structure.
2507 is not required, except to prevent condensation on cold metal. The Interpass

Can Duplex 2507 Stainless Steel Be Welded?

Yes. Duplex 2507 stainless steel has good weldability and can be joined to itself and other materials using a variety of welding methods, including SMAW (shielded metal arc welding), PAW (plasma arc welding), GTAW (gas tungsten arc welding), FCW (flux cored wire) and SAW (submerged arc welding). When welding 2507, it is best to use 2507/P100 filler metal.

Does Duplex 2507 Stainless Steel Rust?

Yes. Although duplex 2507 stainless steel is very corrosion resistant, it can still rust in extreme situations. It is, nevertheless, less likely to rust than other varieties of stainless steel. The high quantities of chromium and molybdenum in 2507 make it extremely resistant to uniform corrosion caused by organic acids like formic and acetic acid. The exceptional corrosion resistance of 2507 steel makes it suited for use in corrosive conditions such as seawater, acids, and chemicals, where it retains its integrity and does not rust or corrode quickly.

Is Duplex 2507 Stainless Steel Magnetic?

Yes, the presence of ferritic grains within its composition renders 2507 duplex stainless steel a magnetic material.

Is Duplex 2507 Stainless Steel Expensive?
